At CogniHealth Home Care, we believe every caregiver deserves the opportunity to provide care with confidence, compliance, and support.

Becoming a credentialed caregiver ensures you meet California’s Home Care Organization (HCO) requirements and gives families peace of mind knowing they’re cared for by qualified professionals.

Why Credentialing Matters

The credentialing process isn’t just paperwork. It’s what ensures client safety, professional standards, and your legal eligibility to work in home care across California.

CogniHealth helps new and experienced caregivers through every step of the process, offering guidance, resources, and mentorship to make onboarding seamless.

Our Step-by-Step Caregiver Credentialing Process

Step 1 — Apply & Interview

Begin by completing our Job Application Form →.
Once reviewed, our HR team will contact qualified applicants for an initial interview to learn more about your experience, availability, and career goals.

Step 2 — Background Check & Live Scan

California law requires all home care aides to complete a criminal background check through the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI using the Live Scan fingerprinting process.

CogniHealth will provide you with the required Live Scan form and instructions for completing this step.

Typical turnaround time: 3–7 business days.

Step 3 — Tuberculosis (TB) Test & Health Screening

Caregivers must submit documentation of a negative TB test (within the past 12 months) and a basic health screening verifying fitness to provide care safely.

You can complete this through your primary care provider or a local health clinic.

Step 4 — Home Care Aide (HCA) Registration

Once your background clearance is complete, you’ll register as a California Home Care Aide (HCA) through the Department of Social Services (CDSS).

Our team assists with the registration process and submission of required documents.

CogniHealth covers the cost of initial registration for eligible new hires.

Step 5 — Orientation & Training

After credentialing approval, you’ll attend a CogniHealth new hire orientation, covering:

Client care and safety standards

Communication and documentation best practices

Emergency procedures and confidentiality policies

You’ll also receive paid onboarding training and access to continuing education for your professional growth.

Step 6 — Official Activation

Once all requirements are met, you’ll be officially activated as a CogniHealth Caregiver.

You’ll receive your welcome packet, client care assignments, and continued support from your Care Coordinator.

Welcome to a team that values compassion, professionalism, and growth.
